Every November Manhattan department stores reveal their Christmas window displays. This year, for the first time in my 20 years of living here, I toured a lot of them while working on this story for Marketplace. Stores spend about a third of their visual merchandising budgets on these holiday windows. Some are traditional, some less so, but all attract curious passersby. Some people, like the old friends I met outside Bergdorf Goodman, meet up each year just to check them out.
