This piece looks how the fashion industry is using data analytics to avoid losses due to unpredictable weather. Unseasonable weather has always been the enemy of sales. But while the weather is getting more unseasonable, data analysis and predictive technologies mean the industry can now do a better job at shifting product – even in an unusually warm January. I visited the Fashion Institute of Technology as part of my reporting, and also spoke to data analytics firm Planalytics.
